DESIGN

Roberto is committed to excellence in design.

With a permanent design team in the UK and China, and freelance support elsewhere, we invest heavily in this competitive advantage…

Innovative & Creative Design

We have a very strong design team based at our office in Borough Green, Kent.  This team is supported by two designers in Zhejiang, China, and further freelancers where necessary.  This global team is deeply involved in all our activities – Corporate & Branded, School & Club, Retail, and our own brands – and gives Roberto a real edge in the design of both fabric and garments.

Our design team is at its best when we’re included in our customers’ thinking early on in the product development process.  When this happens, we can provide real added value in the sourcing of fabrics, the selection of appropriate mills and factories, and the design of a range that achieves exactly what the customer wants.

Many of our customers involve us even before the concept stage.  In these cases, we propose colour and style ‘stories’ for forthcoming seasons, and manage the process right through to sample sign-off.

Each season, we develop a speculative collection based upon a wide range of stimulus input.

Inspiration

From Pitti Uomo and PV, WGSN, Stylesite, we are attuned to current and future trends

Direction

Leadership pieces, showcasing Roberto’s desire not only to follow but to shape future trends.

Execution

Inspiration is meaningless without translating it into great ranges, season after season.

SOURCING

A key part of serving our customers is ensuring that we are always working with the best mills and factories.  Some of this is about quality and reliability, and inevitably some of it is about being competitive on price.

Finding and Helping Great Factories

Through our established liaison offices in China and Bangladesh, Roberto works on a relationship basis with a network of around a dozen main factories.  These are all accredited to, or working towards, the Roberto Global Factory Standard – a modus operandi which incorporates Sedex accreditation, ethical trading requirements, transparency rules and signing up to our honest and open way of working.

In addition to this core factory base, we are always looking for new supply routes – from China, Bangladesh and other countries – to ensure we continue to enhance our offer and stay competitive.

Similarly, we look globally for our fabric supply base, and place great store on fabric quality and innovation

QUALITY & COMPLIANCE

From initial sampling through to final despatch, our liaison office teams work at the factories with the factories’ own QC staff to ensure we deliver to spec and on time.

A Culture of Quality

Roberto believes in trading in an ethical, fully transparent and fully compliant way.  We seek to ensure this through our Global Factory Standard, our Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy, and our active involvement in the Sedex organisation.  Moreover, our regular QA, QC and merchandise presence in the factories – through our China Liaison Office and Bangladesh Liaison Office – help ensure that our factories are safe and compliant year-round.

Please contact Katie Pike, our Compliance Coordinator, for more details: katie.pike@robertogroup.com.

SUPPLY CHAIN

With factories up to 6,000 miles away from our main customers, our work isn’t finished once the order is complete and packed.  Quite the contrary – we are very involved in logistics and transportation with many of our customers.

Shipping, Warehousing & Distribution

For independent retailers across the UK and Ireland, we hold stock of over 3,000 lines of our L A Smith, Henry John and Roberto London ranges at our warehouse in Hounslow and manage small deliveries to individual stores.

For our larger customers, we work around their needs.  This can be as simple as ‘ex works’ collection by their freight forwarders, or can involve shipping, customs clearance, duty payment and delivery to individual depots or stores.
